The Visual Art League of Lewisville will host Art Talk featuring the 2011 “Fresh Ideas” winner Jenny Hong DeLaughter who will discuss her work. The event will be Tuesday, June 12 at 7 p.m. in classroom three of the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand (MCL Grand).
Our June speaker, Jenny Hong DeLaughter, was born in South Korea and came to America in the late 1970s for a new life. Improving English was essential in settling into the new country and a different culture. She enrolled in night painting courses for pleasure and after ten years decided to learn art in a more committed manner. She took private lessons and continued college art courses. A desire to paint like the old masters was her guiding motive.
Ms. DeLaughter is currently engaged in graduate studies at Texas Woman's University, pursuing a MFA degree. Her present work has evolved from representational to a more subconscious expression of her thought. A "dialogue" is sought and developed in the painting process. Gestural marks are spontaneously applied to achieve the desired ephemeral atmosphere and emotion.
The transition over several years from representational to abstract work is in keeping with the artist's effort to better understand and account for life's complexities and endless mystery.
