    William Patterson presents

A Two Day Workshop in Silver Point Drawing,

    A Classical Drawing Workshop

    www.williampattersonstudio.com

    www.artworkshopsinitaly.com

A study (in progress) after Raphael, Silverpoint on prepared paper, Patterson

If you want to develop your sense of touch, so important in drawing and painting, silverpoint drawing is a most excellent medium.

Participants receive a silverpoint and stylus, which becomes an incredible drawing tool. Used extensively throughout the Renaissance, Silverpoint is a sensitive method of drawing. Silverpoint drawings are characterized by a subtlety of tone and a refinement of cross hatching or scumbling. It is both for the artist who enjoys working slowly and building a drawing in layers and one who creates gestured and loosely conceived drawings. Silverpoint lends itself to any subject matter. Preparing a ground that responds to a variety of drawing “touches” is essential to silverpoint drawing. Bill will give you exact formulas for his very sensitive silverpoint ground as you prepare your drawing surfaces with white and colored grounds to accept silverpoint drawing. He will discuss silver styluses to maximize a variety of drawing methods. Bill will review principles of classical drawing in this drawing workshop.
