Creative Arts Center Classes resume in January

Got an old toaster you'd like to part with? With an eye for recycling and repurposing found objects and materials, the Junk Sculpture Class will inspire and assist students in making anything they would like to make. Often times junk will suggest new uses by form or imagination. From the purely artistic, to decorative, to practical and useful items, students will be encouraged to make a creative object from junk. Cardboard, wood, metal, plastic….high tech and low tech and any combination in between. We will encourage a pseudo-post-apocalyptic approach to repurposing and creating. Flea markets, dumpsters, Mom's attic, woods, pastures and streams are a great place to find usable items. The Creative Arts Center will furnish basic materials for construction, such as hot glue, cold glue, nails, screws, bailing wire and tools for student use. Wine bottles, bird houses, winter wreaths, flower containers, hat racks, jewelry, fine art collage or just good old fashioned bizarre are just some of the things students might find fun to use in the Junk Sculpture Class! Time: Saturdays in January from 10 to noon. Call the Creative Arts Center and sign up today. The cost is $50.

On January 8 at 6:00, the First Tuesday Social Justice Films presents its Second Annual Art Film, Audience Discussion and Silent Art Auction at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Oak Cliff, 3839 W. Kiest Blvd., Dallas, Texas 214-337-2429. http://www.oakcliffuu.org/index.shtml. There is no admission fee.

“Press Pause Play” is a film about fear, hope and the digital culture. The digital revolution of the last decade has unleashed creativity and talent in an unprecedented way, with unlimited opportunities.

But does democratized culture mean better art or is true talent instead drowned out? This is the question addressed by PressPausePlay, a documentary film containing interviews with some of the world's most influential creators of the digital era. http://www.presspauseplay.com/ and clips at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MterbpYTyjM

Press Pause Play is the recipient of the 2011 Newport Beach Film Festival for Outstanding Achievement in Documentary and the Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature at the Santa Cruz Film Festival.

Proceeds from the Silent Art Auction, which features works of local talents, fund the monthly socially relevant films for which there is no admission fee. For more information and schedules of upcoming films, visit the website at http://www.firsttuesdayfilms.org/index.shtml
