Walt Davis watercolor demo for SWS April 10
Please join us for our Southwestern Watercolor Society Monthly Meeting on Tuesday, April 10th
and Inwood Road.)
We are pleased to present one of our own, Walt Davis as our Demo Artist for the April Meeting
Walt Davis is a signature member and past president of SWS, signature member and AWS award winner, and author of an article on chromatic glazing in Watercolor Artist Magazine. He spent 25 years at the Dallas Museum of Natural History. For 15 of those years he traveled all over Texas collecting photographs and specimens for wildlife dioramas – work that informs his paintings to this day. After they retired, he and his wife Isabel spent 4 years traveling around the 4,000 mile border of Texas and wrote about the experience in their book,
Exploring the Edges of Texas.
Here is a pencil sketch and preliminary color sketch of an abandoned adobe house on the Mexican side of Hot Springs Canyon, part of the Lower Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River area. Walt and his wife visited the place during a six-day float trip many years ago, and soaked in the hot springs before a thunder storm passed over, right at dusk, and cooled things off. Walt has wanted to paint it ever since. This will be the subject of his upcoming demo for SWS. The perspective will be tricky and the values have to be spot on to work. Come watch Walt work his magic!
