The April 10th Southwestern Watercolor Society Program features Mark Mehaffey, the Western Federation Exhibition of Watercolor Societies Juror. SWS meets the second Wednesday of each month, with the exception of June, July, August and December, at 7:00 p.m. We meet at the Lovers Lane Methodist Church, in Room(s) C103-105.
April will be an exciting month for SWS. Mark Mehaffey will be in town to judge the Western Fed- eration of Watercolor Societies’ show, conduct a 4 day sold-out workshop at Artists’ Showplace and will be doing a demonstration at our monthly meeting.
Mark received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Michigan State University then became an art instructor with the Lansing Public Schools from 1974 to 2002 when he retired to devote all of his time to his art.
Mark is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society Dolphin Fellow, Na- tional Watercolor Society and a host of others.
Mr. Mehaffey has won major awards in juried exhibitions across the country including the Bev- erly Green Memorial Purchase Award from the National Watercolor Society, the Silver Medal of Honor and the Arches Paper Co. Award from American Watercolor Society as well as many others too numerous to mention.
Mark says: “During the time I have been paint- ing (over fifty years) my interest in the act of painting has never waned. However, the con- tent of my work and my technical abilities are constantly evolving. This state of change is something that all artists embrace. It is through challenge that growth occurs. To be timid, safe, complacent or overly satisfied does not push the boundaries of creativity”.
