Dallas Area Fiber Artists: Meeting Jan. 26 on Costumes, Member Show, 2015 Challenge

January Program: Costume Design

“Comedy of Errors,” Northlake College

Don’t miss our meeting next Monday, January 26, when DAFA member Barbara Kirksey and her colleague Tory Padden present “Into the Real Woods: A Journey into the World of Costuming.”  Program chair Vet has lined up these two talented artists to share pictures and stories of their adventures working in the DFW theatre community.

As always, check the website for details. The time is 6:45 p.m. and the place is The Point. The meeting begins with announcements and Show & Tell, so bring your latest work!

During the 5:30 mini-workshop timeslot, we’ll be working on DAFA’s (and everyone’s) New Year’s resolution to shed those extra fiber pounds! Mini-workshop chair Beth Swider will coordinate the weight loss project. She says, “Bring one (grocery-size) bag full of your unneeded art supplies to give away – and expect to go home with some treasures from DAFA’s storehouse and other members’ stashes.” See the details here.

Kicking Off the 2015 Member Show

2014 First Place, “Poule Aye” by Alisa Banks

It’s time to line up your entries for the 2015 DAFA Member Exhibition, scheduled for the month of April at The Point. Show chair Sherrie Tootle has released the prospectus and entry form. You’ll find them on the Show Page of the DAFA website. The deadline for entries is February 21.

Those members whose work is juried into the show will be notified in time to bring their work to the March meeting. The entry fee is ridiculously low, so enter, enter, enter!

The 2015 Challenge for All Members

JoAnn Musso and Carol Kovacs have put together bags full of surprise elements for those paid members who would like to participate in the 2015 Challenge Exhibit. The theme is “Dreaming Wildly in a Primary Color.” When you contribute $5 to the prize-money pool, you get a bag containing items (fabric, buttons, etc.) in one of the primary colors. Your task is to use at least a portion of all the elements in the bag (e.g., at least one button in your color, at least a good portion of the fabric in your color) and to combine them with other elements to create a piece of fiber art (2D or 3D) to exhibit during April. Deadline for turning in the work to Carol and JoAnn is the March meeting (March 23). Learn more on the DAFA websiteand at the meeting on Monday night. (Don’t forget to bring $5 to get in on the fun!)
