Beyond the color wheel: Magenta issues

Is magenta a real color or not? That’s the question discussed in “Does Magenta Exist?” posted on COLOURlovers.com by Evad Sommers.

Evad summarizes the arguments presented by Liz Elliott in “Magenta Ain’t A Colour,” which claims that magenta (or pink) is nowherein the straight line of single wavelength values in the light spectrum and is only concocted by the brain. He cites the rebuttal from Chris Foresman in the article, “Yes, Virgina, There is a Magenta”, resting on evidence from greater electromagnetic spectrum vs the visible spectrum and the ‘pink-purple line’ that is mapped on a common CIE chormacity diagram, based on human perception.

So is magenta a real color? You decide.
