Rust Painting - Trash, Someone Else's Leftovers

The Exhibit is titled “Sculptural Photography:

During childhood, Vanessa’s parents made sure she had a sketchbook in one hand and a handful of colored pencils in the other.  Whenever she visited her father on weekends, she enjoyed going to his woodshop or delivering plans to construction sites.  Curiosity took her through piles of debris and adventures around old buildings.  Since she constantly had access to new places and objects to observe, she began using art as a means to capture her surroundings.

“Photography is one of my favorite mediums, because I love everyday objects, but want to present them in new ways that take on new forms and compositions.” states Vanessa. “In all my photographs, you will see the details of an object, the intense colors and visual textures.”

During travels with her husband, she found herself compelled to stop on the side of the road or to convince him to take a wrong turn (to get lost) because it just felt right.  In recent years they have visited her twin sister, who is a Naval Officer.  She moves about every 3 to 4 years, which has allowed them to see and photograph much of the United States.

In 2006, Vanessa visited Italy in a study abroad art history course at Texas Women’s University.  Traveling through Milan, Padova, Venice, Ravenna, Florence, Rome, Vatican City, Naples, Pompeii and Herculaneum, she captured local plants, architecture and even cats. It was this trip that started her love for sculptural photography!
