The Rise of the Mexican American Middle Class in Dallas: 1950 – Present
September 9 – October 15, 2016
Opening Reception Friday, September 9, 2016, 6-8 pm

n collaboration with the Dallas Mexican American Historical League, the LCC will continue its focus on local Mexican American history during Hispanic Heritage Month. Sixty-five years ago, several high schools in Dallas served the greater Mexican American population. While the curriculum discouraged higher education by placing students in vocational courses, individuals rose to the challenge of leadership by embracing entrepreneurial opportunities and scholastic achievement. This created the framework for
Latino-based service organizations that helped to raise awareness of Mexican American social and economic issues. This exhibition will document the rise of the Mexican American middle class in Dallas. Exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public.
