Sasha Baskin, Melanie Millar and Fari Rahimi open August 1 at JM Gallery

ABOUT SASHA BASKIN // Sasha Baskin, a weaver uses texture and shadow to create intricate portraits drawn from silk and Tencel on a loom. She received her Bachelors of FIne Art in Drawing from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014. In the fall of 2012, Baskin attended Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy where she focused on drawing, painting and High Renaissance Art History. She has participated in group exhibitions in Washington, D.C., Illinois, Maryland, Connecticut and Florence, Italy. 
ABOUT MELANIE MILLAR // Melanie Millar uses paintings to explore the nature of ornamentation, looking towards patterns on vessels, floral fabric designs and many other objects for inspiration. Millar received her BA from the University of Texas, and completed an MFA in painting and drawing at the University of North Texas. She has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions, group shows and juried competitions nationally. Her work is in private and corporate collections, as well as in the collection of the Museum of Fine Art, Houston. 
ABOUT FARI RAHIMI // Farhi Rahimi creates sculpture from steel, glass and paint. Heavily inspired by her upbringing in Iran, Rahimi creates “symbolic portraits of the interior feminine self”. Rahimi received her BFA in painting from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, and her MFA in sculpture from the University of North Texas in Denton. She has attended workshops and symposiums around the world and shown in numerous exhibitions in Texas, Florida, Arizona and New York.
