Brooklyn painter Royal Jarmon
Opening Saturday January 9th
6 – 8:30
Galleri Urbane Dallas looks forward to hosting Brooklyn artist Royal Jarmon for his first solo exhibition with the gallery, Duck in Water. The show will open with an artist’s reception on Saturday, January 9th from 6 – 8:30 PM, and will run until February 13th, 2016.
Duck in Water will be examining “contemporary cultural aesthetic,” an aesthetic which blends aspects of pop culture and mass advertising with digital technology and material examination. Jarmon’s works contain both touches of the hand as well as digital processes, providing both stimulation and pleasure to the eye. The works serve as a dialogue between tradition and advancing technology, an expression of the new world we live in which combines the virtual and digital with what is “real” in the three-dimensional, tangible sense. In his own words, Jarmon is “pointing out the inescapable saturation of computers in in our lives. The general population views so much of what we see on screens. I don’t use any computerized aspects in the application of paint, but I try to bring some of those same values to the canvas. It lends itself to the tension of technology and the tangible.”
