The New Photography Collective is pleased to present its first members’ exhibit at the Goldmark Cultural Center’s John H. Milde Gallery, 13999 Goldmark Dr., Dallas, TX 75240, from October 7 – November 8, 2019 (10am-4:30pm on weekdays). An artists’ reception will be held on Sunday, October 20 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
The New Photography Collective began as a group of photographers in the DFW metroplex who were interested in discussing their new work with like-minded artists. David Brown, Amy Holmes George and Frank Lopez initiated the group by asking accomplished artists and friends whose work they admired, and the collective grew to a dozen contemporary artists in the North Texas area.
David comments: “Amy, Frank and I had discussed forming this group several times. Finally, we decided to invite some artists each of us knew and see what happened. Our goal was to have a community of visual artists for support and encouragement. Being able to exhibit with each other is just icing on the cake.”
Their processes differ– some use diverse traditions and methods of 19th through 21st Century photography– but they are united by their passion and pursuit of the individually crafted and uniquely printed image.
“I allow chance to become the creator, or an agent of destruction, through the use of chemicals in my work. My interest is in relinquishing the control afforded by the computer, to create a one-of-a-kind image,” says Tiffany Milow.
The exhibit features a diversity of technique and materials, with examples of traditional realistic photography, montage, abstraction, staged images, and state-of-the-art technology. Their work illustrates that the definition of “photography” has broadened considerably in contemporary use.
New Photography Collective members are Tatyana Bessmertnaya, David Brown, Norm Diamond, Frank Lopez, Amy Holmes George, Loli Kantor, Esther Kibby , Brian Magnuson, Tiffany Milow, Marcy Palmer, Shawn Saumell and Susan Sponsler-Carstarphen.
