Miles Between at Umbrella Gallery

miles apart front

EVENT: “Miles Between” dual painting exhibit

ARTISTS: Kati Ramer and Katie Craig

DATE: Aug 20-Sept 17, 2016; Closing Reception Sept 17 th , 6-9pm

LOCATION: 2803 Taylor St, Dallas, TX, 75226

As artists and native Californians, Katie and Kati are moved to capture the energy of the surroundings that shaped them (Northern + Southern California, respectively) while also cultivating a sense of home in Texas. This collection explores the familiar colors, textures and movement that make them feel at home — the swirling energy of the ocean, grand sweeping gestures of the mountains, and subtle colors and tranquility of the desert. For the artists, the miles between California and Texas represent not only a physical move, but also an awakening to their own wellspring of creative inspiration.

Umbrella is an art gallery that exists within the cultural center of Life

in Deep Ellum, an organization built on the idea that vibrant

community exists where individuality is celebrated, and all are

welcome. It is a space for exploration, a place to stretch and to grow

for both established and emerging artists. Due to its non-

commercial status, Umbrella opens the door for artists to try

something new, to push their artistic limits, and to exhibit this

experimental spirit freely. Its unique functionality, size, and shape

offer an opportunity to produce bodies of work that both stand out

from and harmonize with the gallery space itself.
