Emmanuel Gillespie opens Jan. 17 at SDCC

Emmanuel Gillespie opens new show this weekend!
“Middle Passage”

Emmanuel Gillespie, well known Dallas visual artist, has been exhibiting for over 20 years. His public art work can be seen in South Dallas thanks to DART’s Art Program and the City of Dallas’ Public Art Program. This exhibition “Middle Passage” represents his latest studio work. Gillespie says “My work is inspired by the memory of African descendants who died while being shipped to North America as part of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Often understood as the “Middle Passage,” this title refers to a triangular trade route linking Europe, Africa, and North America, where millions of Africans were captured as goods to be sold and transported across the Atlantic Ocean. Paintings in this series employ related densities of color in an effort to revisit and reframe the past and its impact on my identity.” Join us for the opening of this thoughtful exhibition.

Exhibition runs through February 28, 2015.
