April 12 – May 25, 2018
Opening Reception: April 12, 2018, 6pm to 8 pm
The City of Dallas’ Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) announces the inaugural joint exhibition, ART214, at the OCA’s four cultural centers: Bath House Cultural Center, Latino Cultural Center, Oak Cliff Cultural Center and the South Dallas Cultural Center. This collaborative exhibit is an integral component of Dallas Arts Month (April 2018) and showcases the work of visual artists from the City of Dallas and the greater North Texas region. From over 700 entries, jurors for ART214 selected over 190 pieces by 137 artists for the exhibition. “For the first time ever, ART214 showcases the diverse spectrum of visual artists working in our city and region. This joint exhibition at the four cultural centers celebrates the importance of Dallas Arts Month, and continues to raise awareness of the creative class in our civic ecosystem.” said Jennifer Scripps, Director of the Office of Cultural Affairs.
The jurors for the exhibition were: Elizabeth Mellott, Professor of Photography at Collin County College and visual artist; Tori Phillips, independent arts administrator and visual artist; Jim Burton, Senior Lecturer of Drawing and Painting at the University of North Texas; and Arthur Peña, Visiting Professor of Drawing and Painting at the University of North Texas. ART214 is curated by Cristina Estrella Riggs, Ceramics and Art Teacher at Bryan Adams High School Leadership Academy, Dallas Independent School District.
All exhibitions and opening receptions are free and open to the public.
