Capturing the Dream | Irma Ward
Friday, January 27
6:00 to 8:00 pm
Ward begins with a sketch that can be contrived as a recognizable scene or accessible shapes, then transforms the surface, layer after layer, until the painting is complete. Ward shares a favorite quote from Marc Chagall speaking about the meaning of ‘abstract,’ “…something which comes to life spontaneously through a gamut of contracts….and pervades both the picture and the eye of the spectator with conceptions of new and unfamiliar elements.” With Wards paintings, too the final image may have no visible connection with the initial sketch, but will inspire the viewer to find “new and unfamiliar elements.
“Capturing the Dream, paintings by Irma Ward” will be on view from January 3 to February 27 at Elm Street Studio in Keller, Texas. Please join us for a complimentary reception and meet the artist on Friday, January 27th from 6 to 8pm. To see more of Wards’ work and for details, please visit www.ElmStreetStudioKeller.com.
In addition to her abstract pieces, Ward is sharing with us a portion of a wonderful series she has created called “Diary of Susie Swimmer.” Ward explored a 30 day challenge to create a new painting every day for a month. For continuity, Ward designed still life paintings and included the same ceramic figurine – Susie Swimmer in each of the 30 paintings. Stop by to see some of these whimsical painting, and read the story associated with each.
A portion of all art sale proceeds will benefit the Disabled American Veterans.
Gallery Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 1 to 5pm and by appointment
