Home to a wide variety of educational activities throughout the year, Dallas Heritage Village is pleased to host its second annual art exhibition and sale on October 4-6. Open to any artist, at least 21 years of age, the 2013 exhibition and sale will be held in Browder Springs Hall, an historic structure recently adapted for exhibitions on the museum’s grounds.
All entries in this year’s event will be limited to Plein Air paintings. This year’s sale and exhibition will honor the dean of Texas plein air painting, Frank Reaugh. Over the course of his five decades in Dallas, Reaugh was an important figure on the Dallas and Texas art scenes. A gifted artist, teacher, and inventor, Reaugh influenced the development of countless artists and students in Dallas and throughout Texas. A founder of the Dallas Art Society, which eventually evolved into the Dallas Museum of Art, Reaugh was a dedicated teacher who led annual painting trips to West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. A champion of plein air painting and master with pastels, Reaugh is primarily known for his studies of the Texas landscape and longhorn cattle.
In recognition of Reaugh’s contribution to the art of Dallas and Texas, this year’s $1,000 prize for best in show will be named the Frank Reaugh Award. Entries: All entries will be juried from digital images submitted to OnlineJuriedShows.com. Awards will be judged from original works of art. Entries are currently being accepted.
