Each year in October, the Texas Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities (GCPD) produces a poster for National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The art featured on the poster is an original piece created by a Texas artist with a disability. Last year more than 2,500 posters were distributed free of charge to businesses all across the State. Texas HireAbility Campaign (#TXHireAbility) raises awareness about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities.
Entries must be received electronically or postmarked by July 16, 2018. All submissions must be accompanied by a signed Entry Form, which is available on our website along with the Submission Guidelines. We will accept artwork in any media. There is NO FEE to submit entries. There is no specific theme required, however, judges may give additional consideration for art that relates to employment. The winner of the Texas NDEAM Poster Art contest will be notified upon final decision of the Governor’s Committee and a GovDelivery email will be circulated statewide announcing the winner of the contest.
The original artwork should not be submitted with the entry. Submissions from Texas artists with disabilities can be sent electronically to the Committee with a photo attachment of the original work in a high resolution digital format – ideally a JPEG or PDF (this is the preferred method). We will also accept a color photocopy, OR image on a CD sent by postal mail.
Once the panel of judges has determined the winner, we will make arrangements to receive the original artwork. The original art and the poster will be on permanent display in the Office of the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities, and will be featured in offsite exhibits from time to time. The winning artist is also invited to be an honored guest at the annual Lex Frieden Employment Awards ceremony in October.
