CALL TO ARTISTS

Art in the Metroplex Juried Exhibition

Deadline: August 25, 2014

Art in the Metroplex is back!  After a brief hiatus, TCU has handed over the reins of the Art in the Metroplex exhibit to the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, so this decades-long tradition of a multi-county show will continue on.

The Arts Center welcomes submissions from artists in the DFW Metroplex and surrounding areas – Tarrant, Dallas, Collin, Cooke, Denton, Ellis, Grayson, Hill, Hood, Hunt, Jack, Johnson, Kaufmann, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Parker, Rockwall, Somervell and Wise counties for the 2014 Art in the Metroplex Exhibition.  Exhibition is October 3 – 30, 2014 at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Juror is Sara-Jayne Parsons. Awards TBA.  Deadline August 25, 2014.

Artists may submit up to three artworks in JPG format, preferably 1 to 2MB file size.  Only 3D work may include a detail or second view.  Video may be AVI, MOV, MPG or MP4. Works must be original, and have been completed in the last two years. Students 18 and older are welcome to submit work, but it must have been created without supervision. No work previously exhibited in Art in the Metroplex competition may be entered. Painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, video, and mixed media qualify for entry.

Artists may submit up to three pieces.  Non-refundable fee is $35.  Submission is a 3-part process; make sure to enter a current and correct email to receive all instructions. Artists can submit work using the following link:

She will be the new Director of The Galleries at TCU starting Fall 2014, lending a link to the former home of Art in the Metroplex.

Parsons has worked directly with many artists to develop and produce new, commissioned works.  As well as writing for contemporary art magazines such as Source and Art Monthly Australia, Sara-Jayne has published essays in various exhibition catalogues such as Soft Estate: Edward Chell (2013), 3am: wonder, paranoia and the restless night (2013), I Exist (in some way) (2013), Is Britain Great? 3: The Caravan Gallery (2011), and Jyll Bradley: Airports for the lights, shadows and particles, (2011).

Sara-Jayne received an MA in Art History from the University of North Texas (1996) and was previously Assistant Director at the UNT Art Galleries. She is currently completing a PhD in Art History at the University of Texas at Austin.
