The Advanced Studio Seminar
Fall 2017 – Spring 2018
This seminar is ideal for the artist looking to develop a more advanced, focused and personal studio practice. During this 6 month program, participants will develop a strong, well-considered body of work. Participants will benefit from the influence of various critiques with reputable visiting artists, multiple pier reviews, scheduled community work times at The O’Keefe Studio Center, reading assignments, writing assignments, a professional development crash course, and ongoing conversation and critique with the seminars primary adviser, Michael O’Keefe. This program will culminate with an exhibition highlighting a comprehensive selection of each participants work made during the time of the program. There are no requisites for this program; participants simply must be serious and committed to developing their artistic desires.
What you get:
– Six months of weekly community work time at The O’Keefe Studio Center (36hrs)
– Twelve hours of group critique and discussion with Michael O’Keefe
– Two one-on-one critiques with Michael O’Keefe
– A professional development crash course
– Five 3-hour group critiques with reputable visiting artists
– The benefits of suggested reading assignments and prescribed writing exercises
– Participation in a group exhibition in a unique space in the Cedars neighborhood, south of downtown Dallas, highlighting a selection of each participants body of work.
Participants will meet on four Thursday evenings each month, from 6:00 – 9:00pm,starting in Sept., 2017, at The O’Keefe Studio Center. The program will run through March, 2018. Exhibition in April. December will be a month off.
On the following dates participants will have group or one-on-one critiques with Michael O’Keefe: 9/7/17, 10/5/17, 11/2/17, 1/4/18, 2/1/18, 3/1/18.
On the following dates participants will have group critiques with visiting artists:10/19/17, 11/16/17, 1/18/18, 2/15/18, 3/22/18.
On the following dates participants will have work time amongst their piers at the Studio Center: 9/14/17, 9/21/17, 9/28/17, 10/12/17, 10/26/17, 11/9/17, 11/30/17,1/11/18, 1/25/18, 2/8/18, 2/22/18, 3/8/18, 3/29/18.
The group exhibition will be held in April, 2018, in a unique location in the Cedars neighborhood, south of downtown Dallas. The exhibition dates and times are yet to be determined.
Interested individuals should submit a short letter of interest (via email), briefly describing their artistic background, their artistic and professional goals and their general hopes for participation in the Advanced Studio Seminar. If it is determined that the interested individual is a good fit for the program, they will receive an invitation to join.
The seminar will have a minimum of 6 participants and a maximum of 10 participants.

$500 Due by 8/24/17
Remaining balance of $450 due by 12/14/17
