Drawing Fundamentals Classes Start Feb. 6 at Klarity and Khaos
|Length: 5 weeks (one day a week)
Two Options: Tuesday mornings, 10-12 or Tuesday evenings, 6:30-8:30pm.
This course will introduce you to the fundamentals of drawing, the underpinnings that set you up for a strong piece of work. Often overlooked and undervalued, these underpinnings have withstood the test of time and have been in use for centuries. The elements of these underpinnings include the block-in, shape accuracy, proportion, and separating light from shadow. Students will start by copying drawings that incorporate these principles and will eventually move into setting up their own still-lives and drawing from life.
Week 1: Understanding shape; the Bargue plates
Week 2: Adjusting proportion; the Bargue plates, continued.
Week 3: The importance of values; the 5-value scale.
Week 4: The importance of planes; learning to interpret planes from life.
Week 5: Putting it all together; students work on their own still life.
