PATTERN Challenge entry, Muriel Mimura

Zebra 1
By Muriel Mimura

This is a watercolor of a zebra I saw recently on a trip to South Africa. It is probably the simplest example of pattern and repetition in my work.

I am very detail oriented and love making background patterns out of pieces of the subject. The hardest part about using lots of pattern is keeping the subject from disappearing.

Like many, my favorite artist who uses pattern is Klimt – all that pattern and color is breathtaking but he keeps it all in control.
