Title: “Tree at Night”
Steel, with Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 34″ x 36″ x 2″
“Tree at Night” – another one of my ideas that I could see in my head, but when it came time to actually make it, well, let’s just say it wasn’t so clear. I had made trees from steel before, but not quite like this.
But the tree was the easy part; now, how to mount a sculpture to a painting? Well, I simply bought a canvas, cut it off the frame, and glued it to a piece of plywood that I had cut to size. This worked great, but no sky.
Well, I’m not a painter, but I know where the art store is. So I picked out some colors that matched the ones in my head and I bought my first palette knife, and with inspiration from Van Gogh and others, and many samples and trial and error, I came up with a night sky that matched the one in my head, and then simply bolted the tree to the painting from the back.
And yes, when everybody is in bed and fast asleep, this is what trees look like at night. Thanks for reading. God bless.
