Barbara Millican Nonobjective Watercolor demo for SWA May 20

Millican_Barbara

Watermedia artist Barbara Millican will give a demonstration on Nonobjective Watercolor at the next Society of Watercolor Artists meeting on Monday, May 20 at 7pm. Directions.

In Barbara’s words…

One of the most enjoyable aspects of being an artist is the association with other like-minded people. We artists learn from each other and being part of a critique group, art society, art class stimulates the creative juices we are blessed with. Very few things compare with the enjoyment I receive when I pick up my brush and dip into my palette of paint.

I was one of the charter members of SWA in 1980 and may be the only active charter member in 2013. We have had meetings/critiques in various locations and have grown in quality and quantity. What a wonderful group! I have served as co-chairman of programs and chairman of the annual national show. These have been some years ago. The national show was held at Tarrant County Junior College.

ilume®Gallerie presents ARCHITECTURA

alex remington architectura invite

ilume®Gallerie presents ARCHITECTURA

Dallas artist and photographer Alex Remington captures the iconic buildings of Dallas and his impressions of each relating to architectural style and social relevance.

The newest photographic works by Alex Remington are four well known iconic buildings in Dallas. Each captures his artistic impressions, as a product of a particular architectural style or period and the “social relevance” it makes to Dallas as a visual city. Each of the four are the Beaux Arts movement of the Dallas Municipal Building, to the Mid Century Modern Statler Hilton, to the late Modernist Fountain Place, and the new Contemporary Wyly Theater. They are “classical” within their own social periods and place relevance on Dallas which in the 1980’s and early 1990’s was considered an “architect’s playground”. Remington displays these new photographic images which are a reflection on the earliest surviving work on classical architecture, De Architectura, a ten book treatise written in approximately 15 B.C. by Vitruvius, perhaps the premier architect of his time in Rome.

The Opening Reception with Remington is Friday, May 17, 2013, from 7pm-10pm at ilume® Gallerie. The show benefits AIDS Arms Inc. Dallas. Absolut Vodka is sponsoring the event. The show is from May 17-June 22, 2013, and is free and open to the public.

The lush lawns, gardens and fountains scream music festival especially if you throw in live art demonstrations, a dog park, and local vendors selling art, wares, food and beverages.
